Midthunder is a member of the Fort Peck Assiniboine Tribe. Her birthplace was Shiprock, New Mexico on the Navajo Nation. Later, she relocated from New Mexico to Santa Fe and studied at the Academy for Technology and the Classics while her mother ran an casting studio. Amber was born in New Mexico, is Native American from her father's lineage, belongs to the Fort Peck Sioux Tribe. Amber has mixed ancestry because her mother is adopted. Prey is a majority Native American cast, including Dakota Beavers as Naru's brother and Jhane Meyers, who played Comanche and Blackfeet and provided an extensive amount of advice to the film. Due to the period during which the movie is set, it was not an option to cast any kind of dog. Coco was the choice for Sarii due to her American Dingo breed.
